A Universal Agenda to Eradicate Extreme Poverty

from the face of the earth by 2030

High-Level Panel is an advisory on the global development dedicated to expanding opportunity for people living in poverty. We make loans and early stage investments in social enterprises that deliver market-based products and services that empower people to earn a living and improve their lives.

Sustainable Food Production

Sustainable food production refers to the practice of producing food in a way that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This approach to food production emphasizes the use of environmentally friendly techniques, such as conservation of natural resources, reduction of waste, and protection of biodiversity. The goal of sustainable food production is to produce food in a way that is economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.

Examples of sustainable food production practices include:

  • Use of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power
  • Reduced use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides
  • Utilization of cover crops and crop rotation to improve soil health and reduce pest problems
  • Implementation of water conservation practices, such as rainwater harvesting and irrigation management
  • Encouragement of small-scale, local food systems that reduce food miles and promote community self-sufficiency
  • Implementation of fair trade policies to ensure fair wages and working conditions for farmers and workers in the food supply chain.

Overall, sustainable food production aims to balance the needs of food production with the needs of the environment, the economy, and society, and to ensure that future generations can continue to produce and consume food in a sustainable manner.
